The problem happened at several pages and sites, i.e. newspaper articles. There is a setting for 'always show scroll bars' in either Firefox or Windows (or both) and that solved the issue.

I forgot about the comment, otherwise I would have posted the solution. Thanks again.

PS, I checked. In Windows scroll bars can be set to always enabled via 'Settings - Ease of Access - Display', and in Firefox via about:config, 'layout.testing.overlay-scrollbars.always-visible : True'.
